It was one of those days that only comes along every now and then. You remember, when the weather was perfect, it's was not too hot or raining and the water was as smooth as glass. Being a tuesday, you have only seen three other boats all day. You have this big, beautiful lake virtually to yourself. This describes the day I recently spent at J. Stom Thurmond Lake, or as some know it, Clarks Hill. Since I grew up camping and boating on Clarks Hill, this is the name I still use. Memories are hard to change. If you remember Modoc Camp Grounds, you will know the area I spent most of my time, especially as a teenager and young adult. When I was younger, our family would camp at Elijah Clark State Park, another beautiful site on the lake.
Today, when someone around Aiken says: “Lets go to the lake”, I think of Hamilton Branch State Park. This area of the lake is only 30 minutes from Aiken offers everything you need for the day or for a week. What a great place for picnicing or for camping. Most of the pictures you will see here were shot from a boat in the waters around Hamilton Branch State Park and areas toward the dam. Hope you enjoy the photos. |
